STCC Faculty Member to Join Microsoft Advisory Council

Gordon F. Snyder, Jr., a professor of Computer Systems Engineering Technology at Springfield Technical Community College, will travel to Redmond, Washington on September 20-22. Snyder has been appointed to Microsoft Corporation's Community and Technical College Advisory Council, in partnership with the League for Innovation. He is one of 16 council members who will serve on the 2000-2002 advisory council, chosen from a field of 120 nominations. According to Diana Carew, Manager of Community and Technical College Programs at Microsoft, "With the excellent credentials and experience of all the applicants, the selection committee faced a formidable task."

In 1998 STCC was selected by Microsoft Corporation as one of five mentor colleges in the U.S., teaching other colleges how to teach information technologies, through the Microsoft/American Association of Community Colleges Connections program. Snyder has been STCC's liaison with Microsoft for the project. Snyder is also a co-director of the National Center for Telecommunications Technologies at STCC, and a group co-leader for the Verizon New England Next Step program, for which STCC is the lead college. Snyder was also the 1999 recipient of the Joseph J. Deliso, Sr. Endowed Chair at STCC.
