9th Annual Curriculum Workshop - Call for Papers

July 10 - 13, 2006, Springfield, MA

A great challenge for educators of this new century is to graduate technicians (and engineers) that have the skills necessary to successfully develop and service the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and the widely diverse industries dependent on those technologies.

ICT - Information and Communications Technology
ICT describes a truly convergent communications system used by traditional and emerging industries to conduct their core business and mission critical applications.

ICT is the technology used to handle information and aid communication. It is an umbrella term used to include:
  • Network-attached devices - hardware from routers and switches to cell phones, tablet PCs and PDAs
  • Transmission media - infrastructure components including core services and protocols
  • Applications for the wide area sharing of data and communications - interface software including video conferencing, security solutions and distance learning environments

The National Center for Telecommunications Technologies (NCTT) at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) has addressed this need in part through their Summer Workshop Series of ICT Technical Sessions. This call for papers (CFP) is to enhance this educator-to-educator learning experience by seeking out technical expertise from around the country, and by presenting the very latest information at our workshop. We are looking for presentations from all facets of ICT. Whether the topic is the network structure at a non-IT company, a classroom application of ICT in another subject area (biology, history, accounting, etc.), an ICT enabled industry (nanotech, supercomputing), or the latest in convergence issues, any ICT related topic will be considered. This is an opportunity to share your ICT expertise with peers from around the country.

The 2006 NCTT Curriculum Workshop is scheduled for July 10-13 on the campus of Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Topics should focus on connecting and enabled technologies as well as applications. Presentations should be 1.5 or 3 hours in length and laboratory or classroom space will be provided along with any audio/visual needs. These technical sessions should contain interactive or lab sessions where possible and be directed toward ICT educators.

To submit a paper, please complete the form below by May 15, 2006. Presenters selected will be notified by May 22, 2006. If you have questions about appropriate topics or technical content, don’t hesitate to email Jim Downing or call him at 413.755-6554.

This form should be submitted by May 15, 2006.
