Kimberly M. Smith

Kimberly Smith is a Certification Exam Developer with Nortel Networks, a worldwide supplier of networking solutions with leadership in packet, voice, optical, and wireless technologies.

Kim has extensive experience in designing and developing industry leading, high quality, legally defensible, global certification exams, with a focus in Enterprise Multimedia Systems and Data Convergence. She is dedicated to insuring that Nortel Networks partners and customers have qualified design engineers and support technicians selling and supporting Nortel Networks solutions.

Kim has developed certification exams for a variety of Nortel Networks products including the Multimedia Communications Server (MCS) 5100, Succession 1000/1000M, BayStack switches, Media Processing Server (MPS) 100, CallPilot, and Meridian 1 IP Enabled (IE). Not only has she developed product exams, but she also developed Nortel Networks first two VoIP core technology exams, which were featured in a CertMagazine article in April 2003.

Prior to her role as an exam developer, Kim was the program manager for the Nortel Networks NetKnowledge program. In this role, she collaborated with secondary and post-secondary schools to incorporate the NetKnowledge telecom curriculum as part of their educational offering.

Before Kim came to Nortel Networks, she spent 7 years as a primary school teacher with a focus in English as a Second Language (ESL).

Kim earned a BA in Bilingual/Cross-Cultural Liberal Studies and a B-CLAD Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from California State University, Chico. She also holds a MA in Linguistics & Language Development (TESOL) from California State University, San Jose.

Tim Ryan

Mr. Ryan is employed as a Network Manager by the City College of San Francisco. His areas of responsibility include the design and support of network infrastructure, file servers and telephone systems across 10 campuses. He is also involved in the development of IT policy and strategic planning. His most recent accomplishment has been a successful implementation of approximately 2,000 voice over IP telephones. Prior to City College, Mr. Ryan was employed as the Lead Network Engineer at Yipes Communications, which was the first service provider to offer Ethernet-based Metropolitan Area Network services. Mr. Ryan holds a BSEE from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and will complete an MSIS degree from the University of San Francisco in December, 2004.

Dennis Vaillancourt

Dennis G. Vaillancourt is the Project Director, National Center of Excellence for High Performance Computing Technology (NCEHPCT) located in Maui, HI. Prior to joining the NCEHPCT, he was Manager of Processor & Networking Systems Development for Hewlett Packard’s NonStopTM Enterprise Division in Cupertino, CA. During his thirty-year career, he has been a development manager, designer, research associate and entrepreneur for a diverse group of companies such as Hewlett Packard, Compaq, Odetics Broadcast, Viking Components, Network Devices, Fibronics International, TGL Engineering Consultants, Avanti Communications and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He holds a MS Telecommunications degree, Wireless Concentration from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, as well as a BS degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Highest Distinction and an AS degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology from Bristol Community College, MA. His principal interests are high performance computing, telecommunications, fiber optics and wireless technologies.

The NCEHPCT is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Center sponsored in part by the University of Hawaii and Maui Community College. The center is a consortium of four community colleges: Contra Costa College, CA, Maui Community College, HI, Pellissippi State Technical Community College, TN and Wake Technical Community College, NC. Developing community college curricula and a national certification for HPCT are the NCEHPCT’s principal objectives.

Steve Budd

Steve Budd is the Assistant Vice President of Grants and Development at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC). He earned both his B.S. and MBA from the University of Massachusetts.

The STCC Development Office enhances the quality of education at the College through the identification and development of funding from local, state, federal and private sources. By providing an environment in which faculty and staff can pursue funding for innovation and change, the Development Office enables the College to fulfill its mission as a world class technical and community involved institution of higher education.

Laura Qaissaunee

Laura Qaissaunee is the Director of Grants and Institutional Development at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, New Jersey. She is also a member of the Mid-Atlantic Institute for Telecommunications Technologies (MAITT, an NCTT Regional Partner) team to ensure compliance with NSF agency requirements, among other related duties.

Susan Adams

Susan Adams is vice president of engineering for Comcast Corp.’s New England region, responsible for building and maintaining the cable operators’ video, voice and data network. She attended graduate school at Bentley College. Focusing on networking and, specifically, IP networks. In 1995, Susan began her career with Continental Cablevision, which later became AT&T Broadband until it was acquired by Comcast. Adams led the AT&T Broadband team of engineers that untangled the Road Runner high-speed cable network from Time Warner Cable and created the Roadrunner national support system of network engineers. Going forward, her challenge is to build the underlying technology that will allow Comcast to keep the lead it has over the Baby Bells in residential DSL services, to continue the rollout of video-on-demand services, and to emerge as a serious competitor for voice services.

Mike T. Qaissaunee

Mike Qaissaunee is the Principal Investigator for the Mid-Atlantic Institute for Telecommunications Technologies (MAITT, an NCTT Regional Partner) and Department Chair for Engineering and Technology at Brookdale Community College.

Under his leadership, the Engineering and Technology faculty has grown by two-thirds, and a variety off new courses and programs have been created. These include the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), and many technological certificates. He also has worked extensively to foster relationships and forge agreements with a number of community colleges, post-secondary and secondary institutions, and industry.

Larry Hash, Ph.D.

Larry Hash is the Associate Professor of Telecommunications at SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, NY. His expertise lies in the following areas: Wireless telecommunications systems, computer-telephony integration, and internetworking. He earned his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.

Wayne Jones

Wayne Jones is currently the associate dean and professor in the Division of Engineering Technology at Collin County Community College District (CCCCD). He has several years of experience in the telecommunications industry with companies such as Ameritech and Alcatel U.S.A. where he worked in the integration, testing, and development of the next generation of broadband networks (softswitch) featuring VoIP, VoATM, Gigabit Ethernet, along with optical networks focused on SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) and DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing). He holds the B.S. with Honors and M.S. degree in the field of electrical engineering and is a Member of IEEE.

Mark Wildermuth

Mark Wildermuth is the Program Coordinator for Telecommunications Infrastructure and a professor at Midlands Technical College, Columbia, SC. He earned his B.S. in Human Factors Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1991 and his M.S. in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University in 1995. He is also currently a United States Army Captain in the Adjutants General Corps where he serves as a Computer Automation Officer and Instructor. In this position he also earned the Army Commendation Medal for leading a programming team to establish a robust database for the Officers of the Adjutant General Corps.

Joselito Lualhati, Ph.D.

Joselito (Joe) C. Lualhati, Ph.D. is the Director of Research and Development for Global Skills Xchange (GSX). Dr. Lualhati was the former Senior Technical Director of the National Skill Standards Board (NSSB) in Washington, DC. In this role, his responsibilities included, but were not limited to, the management and organization of technical criteria and policy development specifically related to skill standards, assessment and certification as well as the development and implementation of strategies associated with standards-based tools and processes for public and private sector partnerships. Prior to his joining NSSB, Dr. Lualhati was an internal consultant for Lucent Technologies and AT&T with a specific focus on workforce planning and strategic productivity initiatives. In this role, he served as the subject matter expert on process reengineering and organizational redesign/restructuring initiatives as well as management selection and change management projects. Dr. Lualhati holds a Doctoral Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and has written and published a number of research reports, articles and reviews that have appeared in journals including Organizational Research Methods and The European Journal of Social Psychology.

Paul Squires, Ph.D.

Dr. Squires is President of Applied Skills and Knowledge (AS & K). He is an industrial psychologist with twenty years of experience with training development, assessment development and validation, computer-based training and project management. Prior to starting AS & K in 1999, he was Vice President and Practice Manager for ASI's Training and Development Services. Dr. Squires held senior positions at AT&T Corporate Human Resources with primary responsibility for selection, testing, employment and staffing, internal staffing systems and employee development. He was Director of Lucent Technologies Microelectronics International University responsible for developing a single world wide training organization providing support to 18,000 employees. Paul holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Fordham University.
